Ferrosilicon is made from coke, steel shavings, and quartz (or silica) and is smelted in an arc furnace. Ferrosilicon is widely used as a deoxidizer in the steelmaking process, and at the same time, since the amount of heat released when SiO2 is formed is large, it is also advantageous to increase the temperature of molten steel during deoxidation. Ferrosilicon is widely used in low-alloy structural steel, bond steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel, electrical silicon steel, etc., and is often used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production and chemical industry.

Ferro Silicon Application
- Ferrosilicon is an important oxygen scavenger in the steel industry. In steel manufacturing, ferrosilicon is used for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can greatly increase the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel, increase the magnetic permeability of steel, and reduce hysteresis loss of transformer steel.
- The chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very high, and the carbon content of ferrosilicon is very low. Therefore, high-silicon ferrosilicon is a commonly used reducing agent for the production of low-carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry.
- Ferrosilicon is used as a reducing agent in the production of low carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry. The addition of ferrosilicon to cast iron can be used as an inoculum for ductile iron, prevent carbide formation, promote graphite precipitation and spheroidization, and improve the performance of cast iron.
- It is used as an inoculant and nodularizing agent in the cast iron industry. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to cast iron can prevent the formation of carbides in iron and promote the precipitation and nodularization of graphite, so ferrosilicon is an important inoculant and nodularizing agent in soft iron production.
